2003 Opportunity Quilt . . .
"Star Light, Star Bright"
Our opportunity quilt for 2003, made with the Hunter's Star pattern. Special thanks to 41 guild members who put in a total of 270 hours of work on it and to Judy Prichard, Marge Trebotich and Valery Goodman who made extra blocks and helped sew some of the blocks together. An extra special thanks to Donna Teresi who put on the borders and did the binding as well as the wonderful machine quilting.
The opportunity quilt is a lovely way for you to help the community, and you might win a gorgeous quilt! Thanks for all of your support.
The winner of the quilt is Karen Benedetti of Livermore. She bought the winning ticket at the fair this year.
Following is the note Karen wrote to us after receiving this gorgeous quilt:
Dear Piecemakers:
What a thrill and a blessing it is for me to have won your beautiful
"Star Light, Star Bright" 2003 quilt! I saw the quilt displayed
at the Alameda County Fair, where I thought, "I would love to have that
gorgeous quilt". I never thought I would win, but purchased tickets
anyway because I thought that the proceeds were going to a very worthwhile
cause. I have always loved quilts, and just this summer finally began
learning how to quilt by taking a sampler class. I already have several
projects underway (none yet finished!) so I can appreciate all the work and
skill that went into the making of this quilt. The Starlight quilt is
perfect for me because I especially love the traditional style quilts. In
fact, one of my projects is a blue and white bearpaw quilt for my bed! I
want to thank all the piecemakers who were involved in this project--it is
a treasure to have a quilt like this that was worked on by so many women. I
plan to use it on or over my bed where I will enjoy it daily and it will
inspire me to improve my quilting skills. It was also a pleasure to meet
some of the members of the guild and I look forward to seeing more of you in
the future.
With many thanks,
Karen Benedetti
